We are in a Journey through the book of Psalms for the moth so i think it best, we stay there.
Text: Psalms 124:1-8
If it had not been the Lord who was on our side,
Now may Israel say;
If it had not been the Lord who was on our side,
When men rose up against us:
Then they had swallowed us up quick,
When their wrath was kindled against us:
Then the waters had overwhelmed us,
The stream had gone over our soul:
Then the proud waters
Had gone over our soul.
Blessed be the Lord,
Who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.
Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers:
The snare is broken, and we are escaped.
Our help is in the name of the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.
Brothers and sisters,
This Psalm is, one of 15 songs pinned as a Psalm of ascents. Some would believe These songs, are sung by pilgrims on their procession, to celebrate the seasonal feasts in Jerusalem.
These 15 songs, adapted from ancient hymns, are that which sings praises unto God,
These 15 songs, match that of the 15 steps leading up to the temple in Jerusalem.
One would not go up these steps haphazardly, eager to get to the temple, without first acknowledging the fact they made it, another step.
It is here now, where we have landed on the fifth step,Words echoed by David, IF IT HAD NOT BEEN, FOR THE LORD WHO WAS ON OUR SIDE.
Psalms 124. Such a rich passage of scripture, A scripture that teaches us the value of having God on your side.
There is in fact, not a particular story that this psalm is attached to,
Yet David’s story alone is enough to shout about.
A boy who was overlooked and undervalued,
a boy, who’s life was threatened at the hands of King Saul,
A boy who fell over and over again,
A boy who was a Cheater,
A boy who was a liar,
A boy who was a killer,
Ended up being a king, Still living
Forgiven for killing,
Forgiven for lying ,
Forgiven for cheating,
This man David has a testimony that it could’ve gone bad SOOn,
But God kept him and covered him.
That it could’ve gone bad as he was on the run from Saul,
But God kept him and Covered him.
That it could have gone bad after sleeping with bethsheeba
But God Kept him, and covered him.
